The NFL recently announced that four players have been penalised for violating the league’s gambling policy.
Indefinite suspensions are imposed for betting on NFL games in the 2022 season against Isaiah Rodgers, Rashod Berry and Demetrius Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts, as well as free agent Demetrius Taylor.
The Tennessee Titans’ Nicholas Petit-Frere has been banned from the team’s first six regular-season games in 2023 due to his involvement in club-based betting on non-NFL sports.
After the 2023 season, Rodgers, Berry and Taylor can submit a petition for reinstatement. Following the revelation of their indefinite suspensions, the Colts released Rodgers and Berry.
Following the release of Rodgers and Berry, Chris Ballard, Colts General Manager said in a statement: “We have made the following roster moves as a consequence of the determination that these players violated the league’s gambling policy.
“As an organisation we will continue to educate our players, coaches, and staff on the policies in place and the significant consequences that may occur with violations.”
On 5 June, Rodgers released a statement in which he claimed to take “full responsibility” for his actions.
The Titans in a statement said: “We have been made aware of Nick’s suspension by the league.
“We believe in Nick and know that he has a deep respect for the integrity of the game and our organisation. We will continue to emphasise to our players the importance of understanding and adhering to league rules and policies.”
Meanwhile, on 21 April, the NFL suspended Lions receivers Jameson Williams, Quintez Cephus, Stanley Berryhill, safety C.J. Moore and Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney for violating the league’s gambling policy.
