Mark Murray, the Co-founder of WhysUp, completed the charity’s residential treatment programme for gambling addiction back in 2013, and together with his business partner (and fellow addict in recovery), Liam McBride, is now working with Gordon Moody to develop a package, using their own recovery experiences to offer help and support to the rehab residents.
Gordon Moody offers treatment to the most severely affected by gambling harm, through Residential centres and Retreat and Counselling programmes.
The charity previously appeared on the GI Huddle’s Problem Gambling series, which can be seen here.
As part of the collaboration between the charity and WhysUp, three sessions are set to be delivered; covering Mark’s own story and recovery journey, understanding and raising awareness regarding addiction and the promotion of health and wellbeing.
The collaboration programme was developed in August and is being rolled out to Gordon Moody treatment centres starting October 2021.
Matthew Hickey, CEO of Gordon Moody, commented: “The strategic priority for Gordon Moody is to develop the right partnerships with experts to deliver the best service that we can. Working in collaboration with WhysUp is the first to ensure that we have the best-lived experience support for those who are in post-treatment recovery. This collaboration is vital to our success and I’m so proud to be working alongside Mark and the team at WhysUp.”
Mark Murray, Co-Founder of WhysUp, added: “We believe that a joint approach gives people something more in treatment and extra support post-treatment. As a result, we believe this collaboration gives the person the best possible chance of recovery.”
