ASX Sports launches “next generation” fantasy rugby

DigitalRugby

The blockchain-powered platform has brought rugby to its virtual exchange ahead of the Six Nations Championship, which kicks off when Ireland plays Wales on 5 February.

With data from Rugby Analytics, part of the RugbyPass Group, ASX will cover all 15 matches over the course of the five-week tournament, bringing “a new dimension” to the sport by offering fans a live, free-to-play fantasy game.

Its exchange allows people to trade players in real time, with a chance to earn cash prizes, but unlike traditional fantasy sports games, each match is a separate contest, with rewards and ASX Sports’ new ‘Sportzcoins’ up for grabs.

This is a unique digital currency and is also being launched in conjunction with the Six Nations. Every new user who registers for the tournament will receive 50 free coins.

“The Six Nations is one of the most exciting international sporting events, enjoyed by a global audience,” said Paddy Power, President at ASX.

“We are now offering fans even more engagement through our live, real-time fantasy games and second-screen experience.

“The anticipated success of this launch will provide us with momentum and a springboard to add other sports leagues and tournaments in short order.”

The Miami-based start-up bills its fantasy platform as “the world’s first sports exchange trading game.” Founded in 2021, ASX Sports is the brainchild of Paddy Power, the long-time spokesman for the bookie of the same name.

With the launch of rugby, the firm believes it is in a position to “aggressively expand” its offering and partnerships with sports leagues and franchises.
