Inter Miami owner, David Beckham, revealed on television just how many people watched Lionel Messi’s presentation moment with Inter Miami. Initially held off by rain, there were doubts about whether the event was going to be postponed. Eventually, the rain became a light drizzle and Messi got to march down the catwalk to his adoring fans.
“Soccer is the biggest sport in the world”, said Beckham to ESPN, “so to have people watching, to have 3.5 billion views the other night on the presentation, it’s a huge thing, but it’s also always what we set out to do.” Those were the words from Lionel Messi’s boss: 3.5 billion people watched the moment Messi stepped out onto the pitch at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale in the event that was broadcast by Apple TV+, YouTube and Twitch.
